Ricardo Antonio Aguirre Jr.
Born and raised in The Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Ricardo attended P.S. 31 and graduated from Mount Saint Michael Academy ('01). He grew up playing sports and received and accepted a football scholarship from Mercyhurst College, now Mercyhurst University, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts with a Minor in English ('05).
Ricardo's college football career was cut short due to an accumulation of concussions so he began to focus on creative writing and the arts. After working various jobs for several years after undergrad, he applied to the MFA program at The City College of New York where Ricardo graduated with a Master's Degree in Documentary Filmmaking ('14).
Thrilla is Ricardo's first attempt at making a feature length documentary where he and his colleague CEO of Digital Bodega, Iasmel Vasquez, followed Mike Davila and Adam Collarile during the COVID-19 Pandemic as they prepared for two major jiu jitsu competitions.
